THE VINYL MUSEUM started in 1996 as a radio segment that featured classic "vinyl" hits, from the 70s and 80s with host, John Michaelson, talking about a song in the segment. Originally known as "45 Rewind" in 1996, the name changed to "Vinyl Museum" in 1997 and played on terrestrial radio stations from 1997 to 2023, and then turned into an internet-based radio station in 2019 at vinylmuseum.net.

Owner and creator, John Michaelson has been an on-air radio personality since 1986 working in Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas, producing his Vinyl Museum segments in-studio. The name of "The Vinyl Museum" came in 1996 when the Clearwater record store of the same name closed down, and John adopted the name for his on-air segment. In 2024, John handed over the Vinyl Museum segments to Julia Harris as she began her overnight on-air shift, Night Flight.

Vinyl Museum Radio Online is located online at vinylmuseum.net, and has been on the internet since 2019 at a time that John was working KESA-FM in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, as an online home for the 1-song segments. Through that, the full time 24/7 radio station was born; a place for the segments to play in a nightly rotation and song representative of the vinyl era from the early 60s to mid 90s. The single segments by John and Julia Harris, are now only played exclusively on the radio station and it's parent website.

Vinyl Museum Radio Online now has on-air staff members, Kaylie Gilmour, Julia Harris, Marilyn Johnson, John Michaelson, and Mike Van Zandt, along with other voices to voice commercials, segments, sweepers and jingles, all produced in-house at their "Studio On The Loop" in historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas and various studios also in Greeneville, Tennessee and Tampa, Florida, made by colleagues of John Michaelson & Mike Van Zandt.

Today, the Vinyl Museum Radio Online is still a small independent online radio station that caters to the "vinyl era", primarily the early to mid 60s up to the mid 90s, playing a wide variety of music from the pop classics to hard rock, as long as it was on vinyl and by artists ABBA to ZZ Top, with limited local commercials.
